The chosen candidate will be reliable and organised, have several years of cleaning experience and possess leadership skills. 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • To provide a safe, effective and high quality domestic service to the residents at the care home by leading the domestic team to ensure the clean and hygienic maintenance of the home and to provide a range of ‘hotel’ services.
  • To work in partnership with the Registered Manager, Deputy Manager, staff and residents to provide that service.
  • To be responsible for the domestic team comprising domestic assistants and laundry assistants and to deploy the resources in the most effective manner.
  • To work in a cooperative manner with the Registered Manager, Deputy Manager and Head Cook to ensure the smooth running of the care home.
  • To provide support to the Registered Manager in the performance of their duties and the achievement of the home’s objectives.

Functional, Professional and Administrative

  1. To supervise work of other staff working the shift.
  2. To prepare and receive reports at shift changes.

  4. Assisting and reporting to authorised medical practitioners and to Matron. Ascertaining medical treatment and receiving related instructions.
  5. Carrying out nursing procedures and treatments and to participate in all day to day personal resident care.
  6. To assist in the direction and training of Auxiliary staff.
  7. To participate in the development and implementation of activities and outings, to give a better quality of life for all residents.
  8. To follow the nursing care plan and discuss with Matron any progress, changes required or further ideas as and when they arise, at an appointed time.
  9. To ensure any residents receive special diets as ordered, and to participate in the meal time routine.
  10. To be aware of the N.M.C. code of professional conduct and Health and Safety requirements.
  11. To maintain any such records and charts as may have been previously notified.
  12. To be fully conversant with the procedures for dealing with resident enquiries, and to assist in the reception and admission of residents in accordance with the standing procedures.
  13. To have regard to the condition and serviceability of equipment within the Home and to liaise with Matron/Home Manager in this respect.

  15. To ensure adequate staff cover for each shift.

  23. To hand over to the RGN coming on duty at the end of each shift.

We are seeking a kitchen assistant to join the team at Kingland House, our beautiful lakeside nursing home in Poole, Dorset, working alongside our experienced chef. The ideal candidate will have some experience in kitchens and will be flexible and reliable. 

Principal Responsibilities:

  • To assist in the preparation of meals to the required standard
  • To assist in the economical use of materials
  • To support the chef in the effective operation of the kitchen

Key Accountabilities:

  1. To actively contribute in the preparation of food and the cleaning of the kitchen area as instructed by the Chef
  2. To be aware of the residents’ needs and dietary preferences
  3. To hold a suitable food hygiene certificate and attend any other mandatory training on- or off-site as required
  4. To prepare food in a hygienic manner
  5. To prepare the meals for distribution to the residents of the home ensuring that appropriate temperatures are maintained
  6. To ensure that all food is used within the prescribed period, with particular attention paid to perishable goods
  7. To dispose of waste correctly
  8. To store all delivered goods adequately, appropriately and securely
  9. To maintain the kitchen equipment, as specified by the respective manufacturers
  10. To ensure that all equipment and cleaning materials are properly used, kept clean, not abused and replaced in the proper places where they are kept when not in use
  11. To ensure that the company’s general policies and procedures are read and understood
  12. Maintain such records as are required by the registering authorities
  13. Ensure that all information of a confidential nature gained in the course of work is not disclosed to third parties
  14. Notify the Home Manager as soon as possible of your inability to report for duty and also upon your return to work from all periods of absence
  15. Ensure that the kitchen is left in a clean and hygienic state at all times
  16. To attend staff meetings as required
  17. To keep a high standard of personal cleanliness and appearance, to include the wearing of the specified uniform
  18. Carry out any other tasks that may be reasonably assigned to you
