Senior Carer (Willow Bank, Throckmorton, Worcestershire)

We are looking for a Senior Carer to join our team at Willow Bank House, in Worcestershire. Leadership skills and care experience are required. Experience with dementia preferred.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. To care for the service users to a very high standard, ensuring that the service users right to privacy, dignity, consideration, respect, choice and inclusion and choice are paramount at all times. To provide a personal service to service users regarding their personal care needs.
  2. To provide or support all service users to meet their daily needs with respect to physical, social, emotional and psychological well-being.
  3. Provide support and attention when needed, assuring service users retain their comfort and dignity, privacy and choice and inclusion.
  4. To enable service users with swallowing difficulties or co-ordination problems to take nourishment. To understand the importance of fluid balance ensuring all service users have an acceptable fluid intake.
  5. To support trained staff in the planning and delivering of personal care, to ensure that all documentation relating to such care as required by the legislation for CQC is maintained accurately through reporting/documenting.
  6. To actively participate in all mandatory training within the home and such other training as is deemed relevant to the well-being of the home, this being in accordance with legislation and regulations laid down by appropriate authorities.
  7. To support service users with recreational, diversional and therapeutic activities, wither individually or within a group as required by the individual.
  8. To be aware of Health & Safety issues, with regard to you, other members of staff and service users. Each person has a duty of care to themselves and others. Any equipment should not be used without proper recognized training. It is the individual’s responsibility to ensure that appropriate protection is used when managing bodily fluids and other waste deemed hazardous to health. Personal protective equipment will be supplied by the owners. To understand the principles of infection control – being able to dispose of infected materials safely.
  9. Report any concerns or issues to the person in charge and document in the communication book.
  10. To support trained staff with the training and development of less experienced /new members of staff
  • Checking equipment such as bed rails and bumper pads.
    • Ensuring delegated chores are completed and recorded.
    • To collate and provide weekly continence reports if needed.
    • To monitor and control stock of incontinence aids and fax through the order as required.
    • To promote and manage continence issues.
    • Support with monitoring new staff and work through induction with them.
    • Monitor new staff performance; give feedback to Home Manager & Deputy Manager.
  1. To answer the telephone in an appropriate and polite manner and to document and relay accurate messages should the need arise.
  2. To welcome visitors and other outside agencies courteously and promptly.
  3. To support with induction of new care staff ensuring that at all times care delivery is in accordance with the care plan for each person.
  4. To be involved in care plan updates. To understand the function of a care plan and ensure they are followed. To accurately record weights as required for the person and MUST scoring is adhered to.
  5. To be accountable for record keeping and reporting, to ensure that all records are completed before leaving shift.
  6. To promote the best interests of the home both in and out of work.
  7. To at all times maintain service user and staff and home confidentiality.
  8. To be able to respond in an emergency in a clam and sensitive manner.
  9. To at all times behave in a manner that is caring and professional when managing service users, their families and relevant others including Health Professionals and colleagues.
  10. To carry out any other duties as deemed necessary by the Management team in the interests of the service users and are relevant at the time.
