We are very proud to announce that Blackwater Mill Residential Home in Newport has achieved a ‘Good’ inspection rating from the Care Quality Commission. The report, published last week was following an unannounced inspection last month.
The report underlined the kindness of the staff and the person-centred care. One resident said to inspectors, “The staff are always available when I need them, they have time for me, I am never rushed.” Another stated, “The staff are very kind and caring towards me, they know how I like things done and they take care to do it that way.”
Manager Lesley Shaw, who has been at the home for almost 7 years is absolutely delighted at the result: “I am extremely proud of the whole team. We have worked incredibly hard this year to get to where we are and it is wonderful to see our efforts recognised by the regulator. I would like to thank the team for their positive attitude and efforts. We are so pleased that the quality of food was noticed as we pride ourselves on on varied, nutritious and seasonal menus.” A resident told the CQC, “The food is very good and if I want something different they will make it for me.” Relatives were also positive about the food and one told the regulator, “[My relative] loves the food here very much and eats very well, I have no complaints about that.”
Staff also had positive things to say about working at Blackwater Mill: “We have time to sit down and chat with people”.
