Residents and staff from The Firs Residential Home in Budleigh Salterton have put their best feet forward to raise vital funds for Alzheimer’s Society.
The aptly named ‘Firs Angels’ took part in their own Memory Walk in support of the charity, enjoying beautiful weather and plenty of encouragement along the way.
The walk brought residents and staff together for a day filled with smiles, conversation and a real sense of achievement, while raising awareness and funds for a cause that is particularly close to the hearts of many people working and living in the care sector.
There was also an unexpected moment of kindness during the walk when a passer-by stopped to make a donation after spotting the Firs Angels on their way.
Emma, Home Manager at The Firs, said: “We are so incredibly proud of our Firs Angels. There was such a lovely atmosphere and everyone really got behind the walk.
“One of the highlights was when a passer-by saw what we were doing and stopped to make a donation. It was completely unexpected and such a kind gesture. Little moments like that really do restore your faith in people.
“We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has donated, shared our fundraising and cheered us on. Every bit of support means so much to us and, importantly, helps Alzheimer’s Society continue its vital work.”
Alzheimer’s Society’s Memory Walk brings people together to walk in memory of loved ones, celebrate those living with dementia and raise funds to help support people affected by the condition.
The Firs Residential Home in Budleigh Salterton is part of Buckland Care and regularly takes part in activities and fundraising events that help residents stay connected with the wider community.
