Game, set and match as The Firs serves up a wonderful Wimbledon celebration

Residents at The Firs Residential Home in Budleigh Salterton enjoyed all the fun and tradition of Wimbledon with an afternoon of friendly competition, summer refreshments and a very special butterfly release.
The home was transformed for the tennis-themed celebration, with residents, relatives and friends coming together to enjoy the sunshine and soak up the Wimbledon atmosphere.
Residents put their skills to the test with some friendly tennis-inspired games before relaxing with a refreshing glass of Pimm’s and one of Wimbledon’s most famous treats – strawberries and cream.
The afternoon also included a particularly moving moment when residents released a collection of beautiful butterflies. Everyone watched as the butterflies opened their wings and took flight, bringing smiles to faces around the garden.
Emma, Home Manager at The Firs, said: “It was such a lovely afternoon and wonderful to see so many residents, relatives and friends enjoying themselves together.
“There was plenty of friendly competition, lots of laughter and, of course, strawberries and cream. Releasing the butterflies was a really special moment. Watching them take flight was beautiful and something our residents will remember for a long time.
“We would like to thank everyone who joined us and helped make the afternoon such a happy occasion.”
The event was part of the varied programme of activities at The Firs, which is designed around residents’ individual interests and gives them regular opportunities to enjoy meaningful experiences with their loved ones and the wider community.
