Hartwell Lodge Care Home in Fareham, Hampshire has achieved an overall ‘Good’ rating on their
recent Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection.

The inspection, which took place over 2 days on the 11th and 25th July, focused on 2 out of 5 of the
Key Areas that CQC looks at – Safe and Well Led. The Buckland Care residential home had previously
had an Overall ‘Requires Improvement’ rating. However, at this latest inspection, CQC upgraded their
rating to an overall ‘Good’.

The Safe section on the inspection report states, “People told us they felt safe living at Hartwell
Lodge. We also observed people to be relaxed and happy whn interacting with staff.” It goes on to
say that, “Staff knew people well and described ways they supported people to keep safe” and “We
observed people receiving care from staff in a timely way and there were enough staff to support
them.”

Any concerns raised during the inspection were taken seriously and the report states that the
provider acted promptly to address any issues. The report praises staff and how they “supported
people in a person-centred way and knew them well”. The Registered Manage, Jennifer Daly “led by
example and worked in an open way with people, their relatives, and staff”.

Comments from residents and their relatives included “I’m perfectly happy here and I’ve got people
to talk to.”, “I couldn’t be in a better place. My relative chose this place and he couldn’t have made a
better choice.” and “I’m very impressed with Hartwell Lodge. It’s very clean and the staff are very
good. The puddings are the best thing, I love the puddings and you can have seconds. The staff here
can’t help you enough.”

Staff were also quick to praise the home, telling the inspectors that they enjoyed their work and that
“it’s definitely well-led. You can talk to the manager about anything and know it will get sorted out.
We are all treated with respect. It’s a homely home and feels like we are one big family.”
Registered Manager Jennifer Daly shared, “We are elated with our recent CQC recognition, I am very
proud to be part of such a meaningful journey. The support from everyone has been invaluable and
our team are quite exceptional.”
