The Firs in Budleigh Salterton has been named one of the Top 20 Care Homes in the South West of England for 2026 by carehome.co.uk – and this is the very first time we’ve achieved this regional honour.
I can’t quite put into words how proud I feel sharing this… but will try.
When we found out, I genuinely had to read it twice.
What makes this award so special is where it comes from. It’s based entirely on independent reviews from our residents and their families. No judging panels. No nominations. Just honest feedback from the people who know us best. That means everything.
I am incredibly proud of our team. This recognition belongs to every single member of staff who walks through our doors each day with compassion, patience and commitment. The care, the conversations, the laughter in the lounges, the quiet reassurance in the difficult moments – it’s all of that which has led us here.
One recent five-star review from Suzanne T, whose mum lives with us, said:
“The team at The Firs are so kind and caring. They work extremely hard to make sure their residents are looked after and there are plenty of activities for everyone to get involved in. Nothing is too much trouble and there is always a warm welcome. Everybody is treated as an individual, not just a number – they are brilliant!”
Reading words like that never gets old. It reminds us why we do what we do.
For us, this isn’t just a badge or a headline. It’s a reflection of the relationships we’ve built, the trust families place in us, and the culture of care we’ve worked so hard to create.
To achieve this regional recognition for the first time feels like a real milestone – and we’re celebrating every bit of it.
Mostly, we’re grateful. Grateful to our residents. Grateful to their families. And incredibly proud of the team who make The Firs the home it is, every single day.
Thank you.
Nikki – Home Manager at The Firs
