The Firs Residential Home Welcomes Schoolchildren and Community Guests for Buckland in Bloom 2026

The Firs Residential Home in Budleigh Salterton recently enjoyed a joyful day of intergenerational connection, community spirit and seasonal planting as part of Buckland in Bloom 2026.
The day began with a visit from children at Otterton Primary School, who joined residents for a morning of activities, laughter and creativity. There was plenty to enjoy, including arts and crafts, colouring, games and sunflower planting, giving residents and pupils the chance to spend quality time together while getting involved in the fun.
At the end of the visit, each pupil took home their own potted sunflower seeds along with a certificate to recognise their hard work. The home is now looking forward to finding out whose sunflower grows the tallest.
The Firs said it was wonderful to see two generations come together in such a natural and joyful way, and the team hopes the visit will be the start of an ongoing partnership with the school.
Later in the day, family members and friends joined residents for an afternoon of seasonal planting, followed by a cream tea as a reward for everyone’s efforts.
The home also welcomed a special guest, Nicky, who has been involved with Budleigh in Bloom for a few years. During her visit, she spent time chatting with residents and visitors about the valuable work volunteers do to help make Budleigh Salterton look so bright and beautiful throughout the year.
Emma, home manager at The Firs Residential Home said: “It has been such a lovely day, full of meaningful connection, shared experiences and happy moments. Bringing people together is at the heart of what Buckland in Bloom is all about, and it was wonderful to see residents, children, family members and community guests all enjoying time together.”
The event was one of many taking place across Buckland Care homes as part of Buckland in Bloom 2026, celebrating community, creativity and the simple joy of spending time together.
