Staff at the Firs in Budleigh Salterton enjoyed an evening at the Great British Care Awards last weekend after Team Leader, Elisha was named Runner Up for Outstanding Palliative Care in the South West. Elisha had been nominated a few months ago and chosen out of a large pool of nominees to make it to the final six in the category.
Having been with The Firs for three and a half years, Elisha Whittet-Evens was nominated by her manager Nikki after going above and beyond with a lady on palliative care. She came in an hour before her shift started to sit with the resident and hold her hand so the family could go home and rest knowing that someone was with their loved one in their absence. Since then, the family of the resident have been raising money for The Firs as a token of their appreciation.
Manager Nikki accompanied Elisha to the awards ceremony in Bristol where they met with other Buckland Care nominees from different care homes. Whilst networking with other care home groups, they enjoyed a three course meal, a live band and dancing.
