West Bank Residential Home recently hosted a Harvest Festival Service that brought together residents and members of the local community in a celebration of tradition, faith, and seasonal change.
Partnering with the St Mary’s Home Service team, the event was a wonderful opportunity to honour the hard work of farmers and reflect on the challenges they now face due to global warming.
Residents were not just spectators; they actively participated with readings and joined in with a lively rendition of ‘The Big Red Combine Harvester,’ which had everyone smiling and singing along by the end. The joy and enthusiasm in the room made it clear that these events play a crucial role in keeping the spirit of community alive within the home.
After the service, everyone enjoyed a classic ploughman’s supper, complete with a glass of local cider, enabling them to savour the best of the harvest season. This simple yet thoughtful meal helped to capture the essence of autumn, reminding everyone of the connection between what we celebrate and where our food comes from.
At West Bank, events like this Harvest Festival are more than just a date in the calendar; they’re a way to keep residents involved in the traditions and values that have shaped their lives. By recognising seasonal celebrations and faith-based events, West Bank ensures that residents remain connected to both their past and the world around them, all while creating new memories with friends, family, and community members.
These gatherings reflect the home’s dedication to providing a rich, engaging environment where community spirit thrives, reminding us all that connection—whether through faith, tradition, charity or simply sharing a meal—makes life more meaningful.
West Bank will donate all Harvest Festival collections to the Ross Community Larder.
