Residents at West Bank Care Home took a joyful step back in time to mark VE Day with a wonderful celebration.
The highlight of the day came when Alice, one of West Bank’s residents — and just a few months shy of her 100th birthday — was invited to cut the home’s specially made VE Day cake. The beautiful centrepiece was baked with care by West Bank’s talented in-house cook and proudly displayed for all to admire.
As the cake was served, residents shared stories over a cup of proper English tea, enjoying the sense of togetherness that VE Day represents. For many, it was a chance to reflect, reminisce, and reconnect with memories of years gone by — and for others, a chance to learn more about the significance of the day from those who lived it.

“It was a simple but very meaningful celebration. Watching Alice cut the cake was a moment we’ll all remember — it brought a real sense of unity to the home, and you could feel how much it meant to everyone.”
The team at West Bank Care Home work hard to ensure every day offers moments of joy and connection, and VE Day was no exception. The home continues to provide opportunities for residents to come together, share experiences, and celebrate the things that matter most — friendship, community, and a good slice of cake.
