A Hundred Years of Winnie the Pooh Brings Smiles, Stories and Sweet Memories to The Firs Residential Home

Residents at The Firs Residential Home enjoyed a truly wonderful afternoon as they came together to celebrate a very special milestone — 100 years of Winnie the Pooh.

The home was filled with a gentle sense of nostalgia as residents marked a century since the much-loved, honey-loving bear first appeared in print. The celebration was designed to spark memories, conversation and connection, with a cosy, whimsical atmosphere inspired by Pooh and his friends.

Throughout the afternoon, residents shared childhood memories, enjoyed honey-themed treats, and took part in relaxed storytelling sessions. For many, the stories prompted fond reflections on reading to children and grandchildren, favourite characters, and moments from long ago that still hold meaning today.

The event wasn’t about fanfare or formality — just simple pleasures. Time together. Familiar stories. A few spoonfuls of honey. Plenty of smiles.

A member of the team at The Firs said:
“It was lovely to see how a story so many of us grew up with could still bring people together. The conversations flowed, the memories came back, and there was a real sense of warmth in the room.”

At The Firs Residential Home, moments like these are part of everyday life — creating opportunities for residents to connect, reminisce and enjoy experiences that feel comforting and familiar.

Because sometimes, the smallest things — a story, a character, a shared laugh — can mean the most.
