Budleigh Salterton care home celebrates the importance of friendship

Residents at The Firs Residential Home in Budleigh Salterton came together to celebrate International Friendship Day and reflect on the friendships that bring happiness, comfort and laughter to everyday life.
As part of the celebration, residents were invited to share what friendship means to them. Their thoughts and memories were then added to a colourful friendship tree, which is now proudly displayed in the home’s lounge.
The activity sparked plenty of conversation, with residents talking about lifelong friends, new friendships formed at The Firs and the importance of having people around who offer kindness, companionship and support.
Emma, Home Manager at The Firs Residential Home, said:
“It was a simple but really meaningful activity. Everyone had their own thoughts about what makes a good friend, and it was lovely to hear residents sharing their memories and experiences.
“Friendship is such an important part of life at The Firs. There is always someone to enjoy a cup of tea with, share a laugh with or offer a listening ear when it is needed.
“Our friendship tree is now taking pride of place in the lounge and is a lovely reminder of the special relationships shared by our residents, families, friends and staff.”
The celebration formed part of The Firs’ varied programme of activities, designed to support residents’ wellbeing, encourage social connection and create opportunities for meaningful conversation.
