Buzzing with Joy: Hartwell Lodge Residents Celebrate World Bee Day with Sweet Visit from Local Honey Farmer

Residents at Hartwell Lodge were treated to a truly bee-autiful afternoon in honour of World Bee Day (20th May), as local expert Tony from Ashworth Honey Farm paid a special visit to the home.

Tony captivated everyone with a fascinating talk about the vital role bees play in our world—from pollination to honey production—sharing insights into the daily life of a beekeeper and the importance of protecting our buzzing friends.

There was plenty of excitement (and a few questions, too!) as residents learned more about bee behaviour, hive care, and how honey is harvested. To round off the afternoon, Tony kindly offered residents the chance to taste some of their delicious farmed honey, straight from Ashworth’s hives.

Jennifer Daly, Home Manager at Hartwell Lodge, said:
“It was a wonderful way to mark World Bee Day. Our residents love learning new things and Tony’s visit really sparked conversation and curiosity. Plus, the honey tasting was a definite highlight—there wasn’t a drop left!”

Events like these are part of Hartwell Lodge’s commitment to creating meaningful experiences and celebrating the little joys that brighten each day.
