The Orchards Care Home buries a piece of history for the future

There was plenty of excitement at The Orchards Care Home this week as residents and team members finally got to bury their long-awaited time capsule.

After weeks of chatting, reminiscing, and deciding what to include, everyone agreed on a wonderful mix of items to capture life at The Orchards in 2025. The capsule includes photographs, a copy of the home’s activity calendar, handwritten notes from residents, a staff photo, and a local newspaper – a true snapshot of today to be rediscovered in ten years’ time.

Home Manager Julie, said:
“We’ve all had such fun choosing what to include. It sparked so many lovely memories and conversations about what life was like years ago – and what it might be like when we open it again in 2035!”

The time capsule project brought together residents, families, and staff, creating an opportunity for reflection, laughter, and storytelling. Once buried in the home’s garden, everyone gathered to mark the occasion with tea, cake, and a toast to the future.
“It’s a special feeling knowing that people will one day open it and see what our lives were like now,” said the activities coordinator “It’s our way of leaving a little bit of ourselves behind.”

The Orchards plans to mark the capsule’s grand reopening in 2035 – and residents are already wondering who will be there to share that moment.
