What an extraordinary day we had at Mulberry House Residential Home in Bovey Tracey! Earlier this month, we were graced with a visit from the Jolly Roger Biker Boys, and it was nothing short of magical.
Herbert Lee, one of our lovely residents, used to be quite the biker in his day. So, when Nikki and Claire, our brilliant Wellbeing & Activities Coordinators, got wind of this, they couldn’t resist organising a special day to surprise Herbert and the rest of us. And what a surprise it was! The atmosphere was electric as the bikers rode into our grounds.
Herbert was over the moon. He couldn’t wait to hop onto one of the trikes and go for a spin. “I felt like a young man again being on the back of the trike!” he exclaimed. It was heart-warming to see him so thrilled.
But the fun didn’t stop there. The bikers stayed for a lovely tea and cake session, filling the room with lively chatter and laughter. Alec, another resident, said, “I really enjoyed looking at all the different bikes and asking the bikers questions about their bikes.” Shirley chimed in, “The noise of them all riding into the grounds was so exciting!”
The day was made possible thanks to Chris Sims, the owner of Jolly Roger life-size models and Bovey’s Josie’s Café. He collaborated with Nikki and Claire to bring this fantastic gang of bikers to us.
Our manager, Helen Hulme, summed it up beautifully: “I was so happy Herbert had a ride on the trike! All the residents’ relatives and staff that attended thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon exchanging memories. I cannot thank Chris and my staff team enough for bringing this excitement into the home.”
