Buckland homes celebrate Burn’s Night in style

It was a lovely sight at Buckland Care Homes as they got right into the spirit of Burns Night. This special evening is all about celebrating the life and poetry of the Scottish poet Robert Burns, and what a celebration it was!

The residents, many with Scottish roots, were absolutely chuffed. The home was decked out with tartan, and the sound of bagpipes filled the air, adding a wee touch of Scotland. It was as if a piece of the Highlands had come to visit.

Dinner was a traditional affair, with haggis taking centre stage, served with neeps and tatties. For many residents, it was a nostalgic meal, bringing back memories of Scottish highlands and cosy evenings by the fire. The chef at Buckland Care Homes did a brilliant job, making sure the haggis was just right – not too spicy, but full of flavour.

The highlight of the evening was the recitation of Burns’ poetry. Some of the residents even joined in, their voices tinged with emotion as they remembered lines learnt in their youth. It was a powerful reminder of the enduring appeal of Burns’ words, speaking of love, nature, and simple human joys.

As the evening drew to a close, everyone joined hands for a rousing rendition of ‘Auld Lang Syne’. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room. It was a moment of togetherness, a bond shared over the love for a culture and a poet who captured the essence of being Scottish.

Buckland Care Homes showed that Burns Night is more than just a tradition. It’s a celebration of memories, of heritage, and of the simple joy of being together. For one night, the residents were not just in a care home; they were part of a community rich in history and full of heart.
