A group of team members from The Orchards Care Home in Wiltshire stepped outside their comfort zone on 20th March, taking part in the nationwide Big Tommy Sleep Out to raise money for veterans experiencing homelessness.
In a challenge that was as cold as it was meaningful, the team swapped their warm beds for sleeping bags and spent the night outdoors. Armed with good humour, a few layers, and plenty of determination, they embraced the experience to show their support for those who have served their country.
The team raised over £200 for the cause, with donations still coming in from supportive friends, families, and the local community.
Della Patterson from The Orchards Care Home said:
“We knew it would be a chilly night, but it felt important to do something that gave us even a small glimpse into the challenges some veterans face. There was a real sense of togetherness, and we’re so grateful to everyone who supported us.”
The evening was made a little more comfortable thanks to the kindness of others. A local resident generously loaned two tents, while Dave, the home’s Doles Representative, provided a fruit hamper and chocolates to keep spirits up through the night.
The Orchards team say the experience brought them closer together and strengthened their connection to a cause that means a great deal to them.
