Celebrating Autumn Across Buckland Care Homes

As October began, residents across Buckland Care Homes embraced the magic of the changing seasons. With nature transforming all around, the homes have been filled with sensory delights, cosy indoor crafts, and plenty of smiles.

At Blackwater Mill Residential Home, residents welcomed the month with an autumn-themed morning packed with sensory and craft activities. The room was filled with the comforting scents of pine, cinnamon, and pumpkin, while soft lighting and festive decorations added to the cosy atmosphere. Paired with seasonal music, it truly created a feast for the senses! After a week of blustery showers, the sun made a welcome return, and the vibrant autumn colours starting to appear around the grounds became a popular talking point among residents.

The creativity continued in the afternoon at The Firs Residential Care Home, where residents came together to create a stunning autumn collage. The room buzzed with conversations about autumn’s beauty, with many reminiscing about childhood memories of playing conkers and collecting acorns. There was a shared sense of pride as everyone admired the finished masterpiece—a wonderful way to celebrate the season. Resident Janet knitted some beautiful miniature pumpkins.

At The Orchards Residential Home, residents have already begun getting into the Halloween spirit by crafting witches’ hats, colouring Halloween pictures, and making bunting, preparing for the spooky fun ahead.

Meanwhile, at Inglefield Nursing & Residential Home, residents have been reflecting on the season with a “We Are Thankful” autumn display board. Together, they created a heart-warming tribute to all the things they are grateful for, capturing autumn’s reflective mood.

West Bank Residential Home celebrated Arts in Care Homes Day with an autumn flower arranging session. This activity encouraged manual dexterity, promoted sensory stimulation, rejuvenated minds, and created lasting memories.

The Firs Residential Care Home residents also painted beautiful and unique wooden autumn-themed hanging displays, depicting pumpkins in vibrant autumn colours. At Mulberry House Residential Home, residents have even welcomed a new addition—they have made their own scarecrow!

Across all the homes, there are plenty more exciting sensory, craft, and reminiscence activities planned for the coming weeks, each one celebrating the beauty of this wonderful season of change. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to enjoy autumn in all its colourful glory!
