Recently, Inglefield Care Home marked National Heritage Day with a special celebration, encouraging residents to reflect on their identities and heritage in a meaningful way.
As part of the celebration, residents created their own family trees, helping them explore their roots, both cultural and ethnic. Charlotte Willis, the home’s manager, explained the importance of this, saying, “Heritage isn’t just about where you come from ethnically; it’s about cultural traditions and personal experiences too. It’s about recognising who you are and how you’ve become the person you are today.” By taking part in this activity, residents could not only honour their past but also appreciate their current selves, creating a sense of belonging.
The theme of gratitude carried on throughout the week with craft sessions that resulted in a colourful “We Are Thankful” autumn display. This project encouraged everyone to think about the things they are grateful for, adding a positive touch to the home’s atmosphere and boosting residents’ well-being.
Reminiscing about the past is also an important part of Inglefield’s approach. Residents spent time chatting about favourite film stars from the 1930s to the 1950s, sparking lots of smiles and laughter. This trip down memory lane not only lifted spirits but also helped residents connect with each other, making the home feel even more welcoming.
Mindfulness is woven into daily life at Inglefield, with calming activities like meditation, singing bowls, and sensory lighting inspired by the planets and stars. These soothing moments help residents find peace and relaxation in their day-to-day routines. The residents also love outdoor singing sessions and taking part in the dementia choir, which highlights the healing power of music and brings everyone closer together.
Through these thoughtful activities, Inglefield Nursing & Residential Home is leading the way in creating a space where mindfulness, gratitude, and a celebration of life’s experiences are part of daily life. By honouring who they are and where they’ve come from, Inglefield continues to enrich the lives of its residents in a caring and heartfelt way.
