Residents at The Firs Residential Home in Budleigh Salterton recently welcomed Inspector Matt Helm and Chief Inspector Victoria Richards from Devon and Cornwall Police to collect a special delivery of hand-knitted ‘Comfort Teddies’. These cuddly companions, lovingly crafted by resident Janet and the home’s knitting club, are destined for Exmouth Police Station, where they will be given to children experiencing distressing situations.
Janet, who led the knitting initiative, shared her thoughts: “I’m thrilled that these teddies will go to children in stressful situations and hope they will help lessen the blow.”
The knitting club isn’t stopping there. Inspired by the success of the teddies, they’re now seeking patterns to create knitted dolls, which will also be donated to Devon and Cornwall Police to provide comfort to more children in need.
Home Manager Nikki Shayler expressed her pride in the residents’ efforts: “We’re so proud of all the hard work and dedication that has gone into making these special teddies. It’s heartwarming to see our residents contributing to the community and making a difference in children’s lives.”
The Firs Residential Home, nestled within 1.5 acres of gardens in a tranquil area of East Devon, is known for its outstanding reputation and commitment to resident wellbeing.
