What a delight Valentine’s Day was at Buckland Care’s family of care homes!
Imagine walking into a room filled with red and pink decorations, balloons floating gently above, and the sweet sound of classic love songs softly playing in the background. This was the scene at many of our homes, where staff and residents alike put their hearts into creating a truly magical atmosphere. Tables were set with care, adorned with heart-shaped confetti, and in some places, even candles flickered softly, adding a touch of romance to the day.
At the heart of the celebration were the activities designed to engage and uplift. In one home, residents crafted handmade Valentines cards, pouring their thoughts and affections onto paper for friends, family, and fellow residents. The concentration and joy in their eyes were a sight to behold, a reminder of the timeless nature of love.
Another home hosted a Valentine’s themed tea party, where residents savoured delicious cakes and pastries, their icing as sweet as the conversations shared over cups of tea. Laughter rang through the air, stories from past Valentines were exchanged, and in those moments, it felt as though time stood still.
What stood out in every celebration was the sense of community. Staff went above and beyond, not just in organising the day but in participating, making sure every resident felt included, loved, and valued. It was not uncommon to see a carer sitting down to listen to a resident’s story of their first love, or joining in a dance, cheek to cheek, with a resident whose eyes sparkled with the joy of the moment.
And let’s not forget the surprise serenades! In a couple of homes, local musicians were invited to perform love songs, bringing tears of joy and memories flooding back. Residents sang along, some even got up to dance, proving that love knows no age.
As the day drew to a close, it was clear that Valentine’s Day at Buckland Care wasn’t just about the grand gestures but the small moments of connection, of listening, sharing, and simply being together. It was a day where every heart, young and old, felt a little fuller, a little more cherished.
