Willow Bank Residential Home is making a significant impact in the local community by leading the way in dementia awareness. With a focus on sharing vital knowledge, Willow Bank invites everyone to become part of a movement that is transforming how we support and understand those living with dementia. They are encouraging people to join over 3.7 million Dementia Friends across the UK who are already making a difference.
What is a Dementia Friend?
The Dementia Friends programme, run by the Alzheimer’s Society, is an inspiring initiative that aims to reshape the public’s understanding of dementia. By educating people about the condition, the programme encourages small but meaningful actions that can make a big difference to the lives of those living with dementia. Becoming a Dementia Friend means learning how to engage compassionately with individuals affected by dementia, whether that’s through sharing information, offering support, or simply taking the time to be patient and understanding.
Willow Bank’s Contribution to Dementia Awareness
Recently, Willow Bank’s Dementia and Wellbeing Lead, Paul, had the opportunity to speak on BBC Hereford & Worcester Radio about the importance of supporting those living with dementia. During the interview, he shared touching stories of residents like David and Shirley, a married couple who continue to support each other through their dementia journey. Despite their diagnoses, David and Shirley still share a strong bond—holding hands, looking out for one another, and showing the depth of their relationship.
Paul also spoke about his role in helping families capture and preserve their loved ones’ life stories, ensuring their memories and identities are celebrated. This approach to care helps Willow Bank’s residents maintain their personal connections and sense of self, even in the face of dementia.
Supporting Dementia Research Through an Exciting Auction
Willow Bank is also getting involved in raising awareness through an upcoming event at Pershore Town FC on 13th November. As part of the event, they will be auctioning a football shirt signed by all the players at Pershore Town FC, with all proceeds going to support dementia research through the FTD Boys. This is a fantastic opportunity for the community to support a great cause while also engaging with local events.
