Residents at Westbank Care Home enjoyed a joyful start to World Book Day as they welcomed a lively group of visitors from St Joseph’s RC Primary School and Nursery.
The children and staff arrived dressed in a wonderful array of World Book Day costumes, bringing colour, laughter and plenty of excitement with them. Residents gathered together to listen as the young visitors proudly read their favourite stories aloud, sparking conversations, shared memories and lots of smiles around the room.
Moments like these show just how powerful connections between generations can be. For residents, it was a chance to enjoy the magic of storytelling once again. For the children, it was an opportunity to share their enthusiasm for books while spending time with new friends.
The morning also included a delicious treat. The children kindly brought along cake from their World Book Day Bake Off, which they shared with residents and staff, making the occasion feel even more special.
Two residents in particular, Sheila and Pat, were especially delighted by the visit. Both former teachers, they were thrilled to present the school with a £100 book voucher from Westbank Care Home to support reading and help encourage the children’s love of books.
Staff at Westbank said the visit created a wonderful atmosphere throughout the home and reminded everyone of the simple joy that stories can bring when shared together.
The team would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the pupils and staff at St Joseph’s RC Primary School and Nursery for taking the time to visit, share their stories, show off their fantastic costumes and bring along their delicious cakes.
Their visit truly made the residents’ day.
