The afternoon was led by team members Sheeya and Liji, who brought the spirit of Diwali to life in the home. Dressed in stunning five-metre-long saris, they shared fascinating stories and traditions surrounding the festival, which celebrates light triumphing over darkness and good over evil.
Residents were captivated as they learned more about the meaning and customs of Diwali, before sampling authentic Indian sweet treats and spiced tea – which went down a treat with everyone.
The celebrations ended on a high note with a heartwarming performance by Sheeya and Liji’s children, who entertained residents with music and dance, bringing smiles and applause all around.
Home Manager Nikki said:
“It was such a special afternoon – full of colour, laughter, and learning. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and it was wonderful to see our staff and their families sharing their culture so beautifully with our residents.”
The Firs is proud to celebrate cultural diversity and create opportunities for residents to experience and enjoy traditions from around the world – and this year’s Diwali event was a perfect example of that spirit of togetherness.
