Willow Bank Care Home Unveils Its ‘Time Machine Corridors’

Willow Bank Care Home has officially launched its brand-new Time Machine Corridors — a creative, sensory project designed to spark memories, conversations, and smiles among residents and visitors alike.

Gone are the days of plain, clinical walls. Instead, the corridors at Willow Bank have been transformed into vibrant, hands-on nostalgia zones. From seaside scenes with deckchairs and model lighthouses to colourful transport-themed stretches featuring classic cars and buses, every corner is a feast for the senses.

“We wanted to create something that feels alive,” said Carole, Home Manager at Willow Bank. “Our corridors aren’t just walkways anymore — they’re places to reminisce, to talk, to laugh. Every design choice is about connection and joy.”

The transformation isn’t just visual. The décor invites touch, with textured murals, ropes, fabrics, and even smooth pebbles that bring the themes to life through texture and familiarity. Background sounds, from gentle bird song to seaside ambience, complete the experience, making each stroll feel like a trip down memory lane.

The idea behind the project is rooted in the home’s commitment to enriching life for residents living with dementia. Familiar sights, sounds, and textures can help trigger fond memories and create moments of recognition and calm — all while adding a touch of fun and wonder to everyday living.

“A well-themed hallway can do more for wellbeing than you might think,” added Carole.
With this latest project, Willow Bank has proved that thoughtful design and a dash of imagination can turn even a corridor into a journey through time — one filled with laughter, warmth, and a comforting sense of home.
