West Bank Care Home was filled with smiles, chatter and the smell of freshly baked cakes today as we welcomed 33 Year 2 children from St Joseph’s Primary School – all part of the school’s joyful ‘Jubilee of Hope’ project.
The children arrived armed with beautifully baked cupcakes they’d made especially for our residents and team, and the treats were soon shared around with plenty of giggles and kindness.
Split into three smaller groups, the children took part in a range of Easter-themed activities with our residents – from crafting cheerful bonnets to building miniature Easter gardens. But it wasn’t just about arts and crafts; it was about the simple joy of connection. Conversations flowed as the children proudly handed out their cakes and chatted with the residents and staff alike.
It was particularly moving for residents Pat, Alice and John, all former teachers, who lit up at the chance to spend time with the children. Seeing young faces around the home brought back fond memories and sparked heartfelt moments of reminiscing.
Home Manager Judy, said:
“It was one of those days that fills your heart. The children were so kind and thoughtful – it was lovely to see how naturally the conversations flowed. Our residents absolutely loved it. A huge thank you to St Joseph’s for including us in their Jubilee of Hope project – it really was a day full of hope, joy and community spirit.”
We’re already looking forward to welcoming the children back again soon!
