Residents at The Firs Residential Home in Budleigh Salterton have been making the most of the warm weather by getting outside and getting involved in the Big Butterfly Count – a UK-wide survey aimed at helping to assess the health of the environment.
The team and residents enjoyed a leisurely stroll through the home’s picturesque gardens, spotting butterflies, moths, and bees along the way. With its colourful blooms and sweet-scented lavender, the garden proved to be a real haven for pollinators – and a peaceful place for a spot of nature watching.
“The lavender was buzzing with bees, and we were thrilled to see so many butterflies fluttering around. It’s such a lovely way to spend time outdoors,” said one resident.
As well as soaking up the sunshine, many of the ladies picked fresh lavender to bring indoors, filling the home with its calming scent.
Home Manager Nikki said:
“It’s been a lovely way to combine nature, wellbeing and a bit of gentle exercise. Spending time outdoors always lifts the mood – and taking part in something with purpose like the Big Butterfly Count makes it even more special.”
The Firs regularly organises activities that promote connection, community, and time in nature – and this latest adventure was another beautiful reminder of the joy found in life’s simple pleasures.
