Willow Bank Care Home is excited to share the touching story of one of its cherished residents, Dorothy, who, at the spirited age of 88, has embraced the art of tattooing to carry a loving tribute to her late brother, Robert.
Dorothy, who has made Willow Bank her home for the past few years, recently ventured into new territory by getting her very first tattoo. The idea sparked during a heartfelt conversation with her granddaughter about Robert, Dorothy’s brother, who passed away and left a void in her life. To keep his memory alive, her granddaughter suggested a robin tattoo the same as her own, an idea that Dorothy found wonderfully fitting.
With the support of her family and the care home staff, Dorothy visited a local tattoo parlor, where she bravely got a tattoo on her arm, symbolising her love and the precious memories shared with her brother. Contrary to her expectations, Dorothy found the experience pain-free and even exhilarating. She cheerfully shared, “It didn’t hurt at all,” a testament to her adventurous spirit.
Care home manager Carole says “Willow Bank Care Home supports and encourages our residents to express themselves in unique and personal ways, whether through art, music, or even tattoos. Dorothy’s story is a beautiful example of how our residents continue to pursue their passions and make meaningful expressions at any age”.
