For the Love of Animals: Buckland Care Homes Celebrate the Joy of Furry and Feathered Friends

At Buckland Care Homes, the love for animals is truly at the heart of everything we do. Our residents have enjoyed a host of delightful animal encounters recently, each one bringing warmth, comfort, and happiness to our homes.
West Bank Residential Home recently had a star-studded event with their interactive dog show, where Agnes, the magnificent winner of the ‘Tallest Dog’ category, stole the show. But Agnes isn’t the only one spreading joy. Across our other homes, residents have been treated to special visits from a variety of furry (and feathered) friends.
Blackwater Mill Residential Home had a visit from Wild Science last month at Blackwater Mill Residential Home when residents had the chance to meet a menagerie of animals from iguanas to frogs, guinea pigs and even a tortoise. It was great to see residents conquering their fears and learning a thing or two in the process. A truly stimulating experience for all.
At Woodland Court Residential Home, Pippa and Walter, two much-loved dogs, are frequent visitors. These delightful pups enjoy afternoon naps with the residents after lunch and have even shown their green paws by helping in recent gardening activities. Their gentle presence has become a beloved part of life at the home.
Over at Mulberry House Residential Home, residents have been charmed by Tedwin, the inquisitive hamster. Tedwin’s playful nature and love for cuddles have made him a firm favourite. But there was an even more unexpected visitor – a little swift bird that flew into an exercise class! The residents quickly took it upon themselves to care for the bird, offering food and warmth before releasing it back into the wild once it regained its strength.
At Hartwell Lodge Care Home, National Badger Day was celebrated in style, with a visit from wildlife expert Mel Smith from Stubbington Study Centre. Residents were fascinated by a special presentation on wild badgers, which even included a real taxidermy badger, offering a close-up look at this incredible creature. Meanwhile, Toffee and Teddy, two adorable miniature pups, have become regular guests, providing endless cuddles and companionship.
Brunswick House Nursing & Residential Home was a haven for cat lovers recently when New Start Cat Rescue Charity brought in four adorable kittens. The residents had the chance to enjoy some quality time with the kittens, who were all in search of their forever homes. It was a day filled with laughter, cuddles, and the hope of giving these little ones a loving future.
The Firs have been enjoying their regular visits from Maisey the Labrador, who never disappoints with her love of attention and, of course, treats!
At Kingland House Residential Home, residents have been relaxing by the lake, watching birds and swans while enjoying a cuppa. The home also had a visit from Jackie and her dog Nelly, who wowed everyone with her tricks and loving nature.
Animal therapy continues to bring our residents joy, including at Inglefield Nursing & Residential Home, where residents have been pampering their lifelike pet companions – cats that purr, meow, and roll over for tummy tickles!
At West Bank Residential Home, their very own dog Jemma plays an active role in the community, even joining the Friday Football exercise class. She always earns her morning sausage treat from Mick for being such a good helper.
At Buckland Care Homes, the connection between our residents and their animal companions is something we deeply cherish. These visits are more than just a fun activity – they provide companionship, emotional support, and endless smiles. Whether it’s our regular visitors or surprise guests, we are committed to continuing to foster these moments of happiness in all our homes.
