Residents at The Firs Residential Home came together for a special afternoon of music, memories and celebration to mark VE Day.
The home was filled with a wonderful sense of togetherness as residents enjoyed live entertainment from singer Zara, who performed a selection of 1940s tunes. The familiar songs soon had everyone toe-tapping, singing along and reminiscing about years gone by.
The celebration continued with a traditional afternoon tea, complete with scones, fruit cake and plenty of freshly brewed tea.
As well as being a joyful occasion, the afternoon gave residents the chance to share their own memories of VE Day and reflect on such an important moment in history.
Emma, manager for The Firs Residential Home said:
“VE Day is always a very meaningful occasion for many of our residents, and it was lovely to mark it in a way that felt warm, respectful and full of joy.
“Zara’s music brought back so many memories, and the afternoon tea gave everyone time to sit together, chat and enjoy the occasion. There was a real sense of community in the room, which made the afternoon very special.”
The event was part of the home’s ongoing activities programme, which encourages residents to enjoy meaningful experiences, social connection and opportunities to share their life stories.
