There was creativity — and plenty of colour — flowing through The Orchards Residential Home this week, as residents came together to create something truly special.
With scissors, fabric and a lot of thoughtfulness, residents designed and made beautiful fabric flowers as a gift for one of the home’s much-loved activity team members.
The project was very much led by the residents themselves. They carefully chose the colours and fabrics, discussed ideas together, and helped cut and shape each piece by hand. Every flower carries a little of their personality — bold prints, soft pastels, and thoughtful touches that made each one unique.
The handmade gift was a small gesture with a big meaning: a way of saying thank you for the time, energy and care that goes into planning daily activities and bringing moments of joy to the home.
A member of the team at The Orchards said:
“It was such a lovely afternoon. Watching everyone choose their fabrics and take pride in what they were creating was wonderful. The flowers look beautiful — but it’s the thought behind them that really matters.”
Creative sessions like this are about far more than crafts. They offer opportunities for choice, independence, conversation and connection — and, in this case, a chance for residents to give back to someone who gives so much to them.
The finished flowers now hold pride of place, a colourful reminder of kindness shared within the home.
