On Sunday, May 4, 2025, residents from West Bank Care Home participated in a memorable afternoon at the VE Day 80th Anniversary Tea Dance, held at St Mary’s Church in Ross-on-Wye. The event, organised by the Ross-on-Wye & District Branch of the Royal British Legion in collaboration with The Friends of St Mary’s Church, was a free community gathering that attracted approximately 200 attendees.
The celebration featured live music by the Monmouth Big Band, whose 1940s swing tunes provided the perfect backdrop for dancing and reflection. Attendees, including West Bank residents, enjoyed traditional afternoon tea and engaged in heartfelt conversations, honouring the spirit of unity and remembrance that VE Day embodies.
This Tea Dance was part of a broader series of events commemorating the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day across the UK. Nationally, the occasion was marked by parades, street parties, and musical tributes, with significant events in London attended by the royal family and military personnel. Notably, a grand military procession and a flypast by the Red Arrows took place, highlighting the nation’s gratitude towards the wartime generation.
West Bank Care Home is proud to have been part of this significant community event, reflecting on the sacrifices of the past and celebrating the enduring spirit of togetherness. The home’s participation underscores its commitment to honouring history and fostering connections within the community.
